Health Services

ALERT:

The New York State Department of Health requires that when children have been excluded from school because of symptoms compatible with COVID-19 (https://tompkinscountyny.gov/health/factsheets/coronavirusfaq#symptoms), in order for them to return to school earlier than the minimum 10 day quarantine period, they must have tested negative for COVID-19 AND also have a letter from a medical provider that documents a specific alternative cause of their illness.

Therefore, if your child does not have a specific alternative diagnosis that has been proven to cause their illness, they will not receive clearance letters from their providers for earlier return to school.  Unfortunately, most children who develop COVID-like symptoms but test negative for COVID-19 will not have a specific diagnosis, and therefore will be required to stay out of school for a minimum of 10 days even if their COVID test is negative. The best course of action is to not send your child to school if they are experiencing any of the following:
  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Trouble breathing
  • Pain or pressure on the chest that doesn't go away
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Loss of taste or smell
  • Experience confusion or trouble waking up
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
  • Bluish lips or face

  • Again, if your child is sent home for COVID-19 symptoms, they will be required to stay home for ten days or until entirely symptom free without the use of any fever-reducing medication. If you would like your student to return to school before the 10 days, they will need to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test and have a letter from their health care provider stating the reason for their symptoms.  There will be no exceptions.

Thank you for understanding the importance of keeping our entire Dryden community safe and healthy.
