Sports Medical Clearance After COVID-19 Infection

DCSD Community,
Thank you for your support of the COVID-19 testing effort. While we are not currently required to perform random sampling, we are very happy to be prepared for the eventuality of surveillance testing.  This consent will also allow School Nurses to test students who exhibit symptoms consistent with COVID-19 at any time. If you have not turned in a consent form for your student, an electronic version is now available:

Please send electronic consent forms to DCSD Head Nurse Anne Levine at

Surveillance Testing SchoolMessenger Announcement

The New York State Department of Health requires that when children have been excluded (sent home) from school because of symptoms compatible with COVID-19:

In order for them to return to school without being tested for COVID-19, they must

1. Wait ten days before returning,

2. Be fever free without the use of fever reducing medications,

3. and they must be experiencing an improvement of symptoms over 72 hours (three days).

If they are excluded from school because of symptoms compatible with COVID-19 and are tested, they may return with

1. symptom improvement, including being fever free for 24 hours (without fever reducing medication),

2. with a note from a healthcare provider indicating that they tested negative OR a copy of the negative test result.

The best course of action is to not send your child to school if they are experiencing any of the following:

o Fever or chills
o Cough
o Sore throat
o Headache
o Trouble breathing
o Pain or pressure on the chest that doesn't go away
o Muscle or joint aches
o Loss of taste or smell
o Confusion or trouble waking up
o Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
o Bluish lips or face

Again, if your child is sent home for COVID-19 symptoms, they will be required to stay home for ten days or until symptoms have significantly improved and fever is gone without the use of any fever-reducing medication. If you would like your student to return to school before the 10 days, they will need to be feeling better and provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test. There will be no exceptions.

Thank you for understanding the importance of keeping our entire Dryden community safe and healthy.
