RESULTS 2018-2019
5/21/19

On Monday morning,  at Maple Hill Golf Club, the top four teams in Section IV- Class C competed for the 2019 sectional title.  Gusty winds and quick undulating greens made scoring difficult despite the very pleasant temperatures.

Chenango Valley took home the crown with a score of 440 led by Tom Christofferson's 78.

Dryden finished second with a score of 453.  This was Dryden's best finish at the sectional event in at least 15 years.

Chenango Forks (455) and Sidney (482) rounded out the field with only four of section IV's 16 Class C teams qualifying for the event.

Individually, Dryden Junior Kevin Gardner continued his excellent year by capturing 1st place with the low score of 76.

Dryden Sophomore Connor Smith also had a strong showing with a score of 80 to finish 3rd.

Dryden Freshman Patrick O'Neill finished 11th with a score of 90.

The Dryden team, which finished the regular season 19-0, was also represented well by 7th grader Jack Whyte (102),  Senior Zach Sinnott (105) and Senior Brandon Madigan (120).

Dryden will compete in the IAC Golf Championship at Soaring Eagles Golf Course on Wednesday May 22.  Dryden will be seeking their second Large School IAC Championship in the past three years.  No Dryden player has won the IAC individual golf crown since Eric Argoni in 1987.

4/11/19

On another cold gray day at Elm Tree Golf Course, the Dryden Purple Lions Golf Team shot a season low 201 and improved to 10-0 with wins over Southern Cayuga (263) and division rival Whitney Point (239).   Temperatures were barely above 40 degrees but winds were fairly light, making conditions slightly more pleasant than the recent blustery days.

Dryden Sophomore Connor Smith had the round of the day with a 2 under par 33 that earned him his third medalist honor of the season.   Smith birdied the 3rd and 7th holes  and had no bogeys on the day.

Three different Dryden players had the best round of their varsity career.   In addition to Smith,  Senior Zach Sinnott and 7th grader Jack Whyte each shot 44 and established new career lows.

Eighth Grader Holden Maslin led Whitney Point with a score of 41.
Junior Jon Heath led Southern Cayuga with a score of 43.
Dryden and the rest of the IAC are off for spring break next week and return to action on Monday April 22 at IndianHead Golf Course against Union Springs/Port Byron.   Springs, which has always had a great rivalry with Dryden (the battle of the purple) despite being in different divisions,  has joined forces with neighboring PortByron and moved into the Large School North Division  (with Dryden, Lansing, and Whitney Point) for 2019.

On yet another blustery day with gusty winds near 30 miles per hour, the Dryden Purple Lions Golf Team shot 223 and improved to 8-0 with wins over Marathon (244) and Groton(264).

Dryden Junior Kevin Gardner earned medalist honors for the eighth time in 8 matches this season.   Gardner struggled early and fell to four over par after 4 holes,  but birdies on 5, 7, and 9 helped him finish with a 2 over par 37.
The medalist honor was the 22nd for Gardner for his varsity career, surpassing recent Dryden Golf standouts Ryan Whitaker, Jonathan Becker and Trevor Gardner who all had 21 such honors.

Several Dryden players had the best score of their high school career including Junior Mew Thongruang, who birdied the second hole en route to a 47.  Also improving on their career low were Senior Zach Sinnott (46) and 7th grader Jack Whyte (49).

Sophomore Kaleb Manning led Groton with a score of 48.
Sophomore Joey Hulbert led Marathon with a score of 47.
Dryden (8-0) will host a tri-match on Thursday April 11 versus division rival Whitney Point and Southern Cayuga.

Thursday afternoon on a cold and breezy day at Grandview Farms Golf Course, the Dryden Purple Lions golf team racked up another win by a score of 246 to 271 over Newark Valley.  The win improved Dryden to 6-0 on the young season.
The scenic but difficult Grandview Farms course defended itself well as most players struggled to achieve a decent score.   Dryden junior Kevin Gardner fought through a slow start to grind out a 41 and earn medalist honors for the sixth time in six matches this year.  Billy Knight led Newark Valley with a score of 47.
Next up for Dryden (6-0) is a visit to nearby Stonehedges Golf Course to play their neighbor and rival Groton Indians (1-0).   Groton got off to a good start today with a win on the road over Odessa-Montour.

4/3/19

Wednesday afternoon amid extremely high winds at Elm Tree Golf course, Dryden edged arch rival Lansing 230 to 238 in a key match in the battle for the IAC North Large division.
Dryden Junior Kevin Gardner recovered from a double-bogey on the second hole to shoot even par 35.   Gardner birdied numbers 5, 7, and 9 on a day when 30 mile per hour winds cause most players to shoot 3 or 4 shots higher than their average.
Dryden Senior Zach Sinnott had a solid day and finished with a 48 to aid in the winning effort.
Lansing Freshman Tyler Kirk had the second lowest score of the day with a 43.  Kirk,  who is considered one of the top young players in the league, strung together pars at 3, 4 and 5 and avoided the big numbers that plaqued most players on this tough day.

Dryden (5-0) is in action again tomorrow at Grandview Farms GC versus Newark Valley.

4/2/19

Tuesday afternoon at Elm Tree Golf Course  the Dryden Purple Lions continued their "hot" start despite windy and chilly weather with temperatures in the mid 40s and winds around 15 miles per hour.   Dryden  beat Newark Valley (267-218)   and then in of of the more thrilling matches in recent history, Dryden beat Tioga on the tiebreaker score after both teams shot 218.

Tioga's score of +43 over par was good enough to qualify them for the Class D sectional tournament in May.

The match featured the top four golfers in the IAC (based on 2018 scoring averages).  In fact,  8 out of the top 18  players in the league played in today's tri-match.    The top4 did not disappoint as Dryden Sophomore Connor Smith and Dryden Junior Kevin Gardner shot matching scores of 36  barely edging out Tioga's  duo of Senior AJ Middendorf and Sam Taylor who each carded 38.

Shawn Deer and Jason Brown led Newark Valley with 52 apiece.

Gardner was named ESPNIthaca Athlete of the Week earlier in the day after shooting 32 in Dryden's first match last Friday.

The match was a great opportunity for three of the better teams in the IAC to square off early in the season.  The match was a regular season match but since the teams are in different divisions it does not affect the league standings.   All three teams are considered pre-season favorites to win their respective divisions.

3/29/19

Friday afternoon the spring golf season got off to a great start.  In a non-league tri-match at Elm Tree Golf Course on a raw grey day with temperatures in the mid 40s and a light breeze, the Dryden Purple Lions beat Cincinnatus (209 to 314) and beat McGraw (209 to 301).

This was the first match in what the coaches hope will be an annual series that pits IAC rivals from 50 years ago.  Cincinnatus and McGraw were both  original members of the IAC conference along with Dryden and others.  but during the 1970s McGraw and Cincinnatus left the IAC to join section III and match up Deruyter and other teams to their north and east.   McGraw Coach Joe Seamans first envisioned the match over 3 years ago,  and all coaches were excited to make it happen.  but bad weather and tight schedules prevented it several times in the past few years.  This year the weather broke just enough to let the match happen.

Dryden Junior Kevin Gardner started the season strong with a sizzling 3 under par 32 that included an eagle on the par 4 fifth hole.  Kevin is the defending MVP of the Large School North Division.

Dryden Sophomore Connor Smith added a solid 38 that included birdies on the fourth and seventh holes.

Dryden Senior Zach Sinnott added to the strong team effort with a 46 that included a birdie on the first hole.

McGraw was led by Caleb Knickerbocker with a 52.

Cincinnatus was led by Colin Earvin with a 58.
