Seventh grade students have Art every other day all year.  We focus on the Elements and Principles of Art, incorporate English Language Arts, and relate to other subject classroom lessons whenever possible.   The first project we completed was a portfolio in which all two-dimensional artwork is stored throughout the year.  Students looked at various examples of typography then used their own original lettering to create an effective composition. Students then combined some creative typography with a photo of themself they altered by cutting it apart.  The variety of compositions created, along with the lettering used to complete the design, led to a wide variety of stylized projects. Homework assigned involved creating a design using their initials as the foundation of their composition.
