DANCES ARE BACK!
=========================================================
March 10, 2012 (revised from March 5th)

Dear Parent/Guardian;

In late fall, it was announced that the remaining Middle School dances were cancelled because of safety and security of our students.  Soon after this announcement was made, a dance committee was formulated to establish procedures to assure that all students would be safe before, during, and after each dance.  Also during this time, I asked the Middle School Site-Based team for their input as well and because of the hard work and assistance of all involved, I am very pleased to inform everyone that with the changes in our dance procedures listed below, dances will resume at the middle school.  I speak for both committees when I say to all of you that with these changes, we are confident that your student(s) will be safe and have a wonderful time.

Please consider the following and please take note of the addenda bulleted in red:

  • The new and ONLY location for entrance to dance(s) will be located on the west-side of the building (1st entrance near loading dock). Students will not be able to enter through the front doors.
  • All dances will start at 6:30pm.
  • Check out times are as follows:
6th grade 8:10pm
7th grade 8:20pm
8th grade 8:30pm
  • A welcoming table will be set up just inside the building entrance for the convenience of signing in and out.  Each grade level will have a teacher assigned.
  • If arrangements are made for alternative transportation with another adult, a permission slip signed by a parent/guardian must be submitted to the appropriate grade level teacher before entering the dance.  Students will not be released to other adults (including brothers or sisters) without a permission slip on file at the sign-out area. No phone calls granting permission will be accepted.
  • Guests from other schools or high school students are not allowed  entrance to the dance
  • Students will be required to sign-in and pay fee upon entering the dance.
  • Two volunteers will be stationed outside to ensure students go into the building.
However, If you have any concerns regarding your student(s) not following through to sign – in at our check-point, you are welcome to come into the dance with them to sign them in.
  • Students will not be allowed to leave dance at any time until an adult arrives to sign them out.
  • Parents (or other designated adult) must enter the building to pick up their child. Designated pick up area for parents and students will be the large cafeteria.
  • Any Students not picked up by 8:45pm will be prohibited from attending the next
Dance.
  • All other dance rules in regard to conduct while at the dance will continue to be in
effect.

Remember parents/guardians, you are not required to sign your student(s) into the dance, but you must enter the building, go to the pickup area, and sign your student(s) out.

Yours in Education,

Lawrence Hinkle
Middle School Principal

ATTENTION:  Students and Parents – Changes to Entering the MS/HS Buildings

The middle school main entrance will unlock at 7:25 a.m. for student entry.

The high school and auditorium doors, and cafeteria side entrances, will unlock at 7:25 a.m. for student entry.

All doors will relock at 7:48 a.m.

All students entering the building before 7:25 a.m. are expected to report directly to the cafeteria.

If you drop your student off at the middle school entrance after 7:15 a.m., you may not be able to leave the parking lot until after the busses have exited the bus loop.

Students arriving after 7:48 a.m. will need to use the intercom to be ‘buzzed in’ at their respective school entrance.

The high school main entrance will be unlocked for both morning and afternoon returning BOCES Students.

Anyone wishing to enter a building when the doors are locked will need to use the intercom to be ‘buzzed in’.

These adjustments in our security measures are in the best interest of our students and their continued safety.
Thank you for your support and patience.
