TITLE OF POSITION:      School Psychologist Intern (eff. 9/1/12-6/30/13)

POSITION OVERVIEW:
This posting will serve to fill an anticipated full-time K-12 School Psychologist Intern opening expected to be effective 9/1/2012-6/30/2013.  This assignment could be anywhere K-12, although it is anticipated that the primary assignment for the 2012-13 school year will be at the middle/high school level.  The school district is committed to eliminating race, class and disability as predictors of student success.  Qualified candidates will demonstrate a basic awareness of this issue and a strong willingness to support this effort.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: (minimum)
  • Certification as a school psychologist intern as prescribed by the NYS Education Department.
  • Experience and ability to work well with students, staff parents, faculty and administration is necessary.
  • Good oral and written communication skills as well as good listening skills.
  • Experience with procedures and regulations applicable to CSE Committee responsibilities.
  • Experience with testing procedures - administration, evaluation and reporting.
  • Experience with local, county and state agencies pursuant to meeting the needs of school - community members.
  • Such other qualifications of academic, professional and personal excellence as may be deemed necessary to carry out the responsibilities of the position.
  • Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
JOB GOAL:
Work under the general supervision of a district school psychologist to provide comprehensive school psychological services to preschool and school-age children.  To help with identifying the educational, emotional, social and developmental needs of the children referred for evaluation.  To utilize all available resources in developing recommendations for appropriate educational programs and services to meet these identified student needs.  Duties include, but are not limited to, psychological assessment, counseling consultations with parents and teachers, development of behavior plans, crisis intervention and participation in CSE and team meetings.  In addition to record keeping, it is expected that the qualified candidate will be responsible for student supervisory matters as assigned.  Intern will meet regularly with the assigned intern supervisor.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
1.      Reports to:             Director of Student Services and/or any other assigned intern supervisor
2.      Supervises:             Students assigned
3.      Work Year:              Internship is for the 2012-13 school year effective 9/1/2012-6/30/2013
4.      Work Day:               7.25 hours/day, scheduled with Director of Student Services
5.      Rate of Pay:            $19,000 (full-time, 10-month school year)
6.      Evaluated By:           Director of Student Services

2010-11 Dryden CSD Substitute Teacher Rate:  $80/day
Dryden CSD minimum qualification for sub. teaching is a bachelor's degree.
Per NYS Ed. Law, non-certified teacher subs. not providing HR with proof of continued semester enrollment in at least 6 semester hours in collegiate study leading toward teacher certification are limited to sub. a maximum of 40 days/school year/school district.
